Stress can wreak havoc on your body, and interfere with your ability to keep up with your daily schedule. Your body has its limits, and once you’ve reached them, you’re bound to experience all sorts of health problems that will severely curtail your activities.

Don’t let it get that far. You can put stress at bay by taking some time out to look after yourself. And a massage is the perfect antidote to a fast-paced life.

Make some time in your busy schedule to check out massage services at a nearby day spa or massage therapist. They’ll be able to advise you of the options available to help you overcome your stress and feel pampered. There’s more than one type of massage technique, so read up on the various ones available that will meet your needs. You’ll need to take into consideration what will best address your problems, how much time you can allow, and whether you can afford it.

Choosing the Best Massage for You

Knowing how each type of massage therapy works and what its particular benefits are is a must before you dive in. Once you know the basics, go ahead and indulge.

1. Hot Stone Massage: Just like it sounds, this massage technique involves placing smooth, heated rocks on specific areas of your body. It’s perfect for relieving muscle aches and pains. The warmth of the stones loosens your tight muscles, giving you greater freedom of movement and reducing your pain. Your massage therapist will gently apply pressure and a little friction to relax the muscles even more.

2. Shiatsu. This is a Japanese form of massage wherein the therapist applies pressure with the fingers and palms to specific areas of the body. The idea is to correct imbalances in the body in order to maintain and promote good health. It’s particularly effective at relieving stress-related headaches and stiffness due to problems of the circulatory system. Although similar to acupressure and acupuncture, it predates them considerably.

3. Aromatherapy. Certain essential oils, especially lavender, are known for their relaxing qualities, and this technique combines oil with a calming massage. The massage therapist works the oil into your skin, loosening your tense muscles and relaxing your mind. Although you’ll likely feel sleepy during your session, you’ll leave feeling energized. This treatment is particular useful for relieving emotional stress.

4. Thai Massage. This massage therapy utilizes a little more pressure than does shiatsu massage, and incorporates stretching similar to yoga. But you don’t have to do any of the work. The massage therapist will guide your body through the postures for you. This is excellent for stress reduction as well as improved flexibility and range of motion.

These are just a few of your options, but you now have a good idea of what will suit your needs the best and help you pare down your stress. Of course, you’re free to try them all!

The number of massage therapy products in the marketplace can be a little overwhelming, especially if you happen to be a new massage therapist. Because of all the different brands and stores, it may take you a while to sort through them all. Below we offer you some advice to help you in finding the right ones.

Massage Tables – If you are going to be working as an independent massage therapist rather than for a practice already set up the first product you will need to purchase is a massage table. You will first need to decide if you are going to be doing massages in a specific location say your home or in a space elsewhere. You also need to decide if you are going to be providing a mobile massage service to your clients as well.

But no matter what kind of service it is, you provide to your clients you will need a table that is both strong and comfortable. Also, if you are going to be traveling to your clients as well look for a table that you can easily transport in the back of your vehicle and which does not weigh too much.

Linens – You will need table pads, sheets, blankets, face cradle covers as well as towels for your clients to hide their modesty. It is important that you choose the linens you are using for your massage therapy business very carefully as they will be placed under a lot of strain over time. The linens you select should be ones that feel comfortable against a person’s skin otherwise your clients will find it harder to relax if they are constantly having to move.

You can get disposable face cradle covers but if you can spend a little extra on buying ones which you will need to launder. Although more expensive they are less likely to cause your clients irritation. If you cannot actually purchase large quantities of these in the beginning then buy one or two as and when you can. When washing them use laundry soaps which are non-biological and unscented.

Lotions, Oils and Creams – These are products which are essential to your massage therapy business and will need to be replaced on a regular basis. To save yourself money buy all the base products (unscented) in bulk and then over time build up a selection of essential oils to use with them.

If you have a good selection, of essential oils, this will offer you the chance to provide a more personalized service to your clients and they will be able to select oils that they prefer. Also as your clients become more accustomed to the service that you provide you can start suggest using other alternative oils to them as well.

If you really want to succeed in your chosen career as a massage therapist then purchasing only good quality massage therapy products is essential. Hopefully the advice we have provided above will help you to get the right ones for your business.

The biggest thing that those who train to be massage therapists face when they are close to completing their training is if they will actually be able to find a good massage therapy job after graduating.

There numerous types of massage therapy jobs available, from working in a massage studio, to working in a day spa or salon or working in a medical setting such as in a hospital, doctor’s, physical therapy or chiropractor’s office. It also depends on where you live as you mind find jobs in hotels, at resorts or on cruise liners which you can apply for.

When it comes to finding what jobs are actually available once you have finished your training is to talk to other massage therapists. But do not just limit yourself to discussing your options with those therapists who have some connection with the school you attend, but try talking to others in other locations away from where you live. Also it is a good idea to talk to as many therapists who work in the various kinds of areas that we have previously mentioned.

Sometimes you may find that there is a lot of demand for massage therapists in one part of the town where you live and almost no jobs whatsoever in another part. You may also find that there is a big difference in relation between people want people to fill massage therapy positions in spas compared to those that are available in medical settings such as those found in physical therapy and chiropractic offices.

Remember when you are talking to these massage therapists they will understand the position you are in as they were once in it themselves. Often these people are more than willing to answer some of the questions you have and may even offer you advice to get you the job that you want. Plus some may even provide you with a good lead for a job which you can apply for even if you have not got all the necessary experience as yet.

If you know where it is that you want to work as a massage therapist then make some calls to that place. As well as talking to the person in charge of hiring staff also if you can speak to some of the therapists who already work there. Find out from them where their training took place and what they like and dislike about the job they are currently doing. Although from the clients point of view the job may seem perfect for the person doing it this may not be the case.

Most massage therapy schools will have programs in place to help their graduates find a massage therapy job after they graduate. Schools that have built a good reputation in the community often have companies asking them for graduates to hire right out of school. If you haven’t already chosen a school to attend for your training, be sure to take each school’s job assistance programs into consideration before you choose a school.

As long as you keep the above in mind then finding your ideal massage therapy job should be much easier than you would have imagined. Just remember to take your time and weigh up the pros and cons for each one carefully.

It is crucial that when you are doing massage on somebody that you make it as relaxing an experience for them as you possibly can. It is vital that the massage will help to alleviate the stresses and strains that modern living can sometimes place a person under, and which can often lead to other health issues as well. Below are a number of good massage tips which will help to ensure that the massage you give to someone is not only enjoyable but safe also.

1. It is important that the area you use for the massage therapy sessions is one that will enable the person to relax in. If you can ensure that, the room is warm and use soothing colors on the walls. Also, if you can have the facility to play some kind of music, which will further help the person to relax whilst undergoing the massage. But only put the music on if they allow you to.

2. It is crucial that once every session with a person has been completed you replace all towels and sheets with new fresh ones. A person is far likely to relax when they know that the person treating them respects them and maintains the equipment they use to a high standard.

3. Even though you may not think your breath smells it is a good idea to have a few breath mints at hand, just in case. Also if you have just eaten then why not clean your teeth as well. You are going to be in close contact with the people you are treating and they may find it difficult to relax and get comfortable if as you work on them all they can smell is your garlic or onion breath.

4. There are going to be times when you have people to give a massage to who are actually self conscious about the way their bodies look and so may be unwilling to actually remove any items of clothing initially. Therefore, it is best in the beginning that you use a massage technique that enables you to treat their problems without actually having to remove clothing. Then over time as they become more comfortable in your presence then you can suggest that they start to remove odd items in order to feel the full benefits of the massage therapy you are giving to them.

5. At the start of each massage therapy session you should only be using light pressure on the person being treated. Then as they become more relaxed and pliable so the amount of pressure you apply to the areas to be treated can be increased. This will in turn be more beneficial to those areas of the body that require the treatment.

6. Another thing you must do is constantly change the part of your hand that you are using. Otherwise you may find that during the massage session certain areas of your hand will tire quickly and so the effectiveness of the technique you are using will be loss.

Whenever you are carrying out massage on someone it is important to remember that the person should be comfortable and happy with what is happening. If you keep the good massage tips above in mind then you will find that not only is the person much more relaxed but they will find the whole experience enjoyable and will in all likelihood return for further sessions with you.
