Indian philosophy has six orthodox systems, of which this is one and is considered an applied science of the body and the mind. <p>Talking about an issue you do not have a thorough understanding of, and spreading the words as the gospel truth is a risky business. Yoga is mainly perceived as a physical activity in the western part of the world. It is represented as a physical activity that is directed towards the achievement of inner balance and meditative states of mind.</p>
<p>It is one of the six schools of Hindu thoughts has roots deep within the pages of the Hindu Holy Scriptures. In India, yoga is considered a very spiritual experience that has a physical aspect to it. But the western world prefers to refer yoga as a mere physical practice. <p>Yoga is one of the most prominent forms of meditative exercise within the growing mind-body health movement. Other forms include qigong, tai chi, and other exercise techniques that include meditation. Mind-body fitness comes from Eastern philosophies and religions. These practices improve both your emotional and physical well being.</p>
<p>Mind-body exercise has many benefits; these benefits are showing themselves to be bona fide even under careful scientific scrutiny. In fact, mind-body exercise can do many things, not the least of which are to reduce cardiac risk and enhance mood.</p>
<p>The kinder, gentler movements typical of yoga improve flexibility, strength and muscle tone and can be more youth-promoting than the wear-and-tear of daily aerobics, weights and running alone.</p>
<p>In fact, practicing yoga can impact every part of your existence. Most modern Western practitioners, for example, focus on the physical asanas, or positions. However, many others utilize yoga as a path to bliss and live their lives in its all-encompassing embrace.</p>
<p>Considering yoga&#8217;s lofty goals, it&#8217;s delightfully simple and can be done anywhere, anytime. Taken to its extreme, yoga encompasses everything from a moral code and dietary practices to deep meditation. Most commonly, though, it&#8217;s a combination of asanas, meditation and pranayama (breathing exercises).</p>
<p>Authors have written entire books on how to breathe during yoga. When you deep breathe, you calm yourself, but you also energize yourself at the same time. You can feel very energized from a few minutes of careful deep breathing, but it&#8217;s a different kind of energy than many of us are used to feeling. Not jittery or hyper, this type of energy is calm and steady.</p>
<p>Try this 5-minute Breath Break to release your stress and pump up your energy. (Read through the instructions several times before you try the practice.)</p>
<p>1. Sit with your spine as straight as possible. Use a chair if necessary but don&#8217;t slump into it. Feet flat on the floor with knees directly over the center of your feet. Use a book or cushion under your feet if they do not rest comfortably on the floor. Hands are on the tops of your legs.</p>
<p>2. Close your eyes gently and simply rest them, lids closed.</p>
<p>3. Picture your ribs at the back, front and sides of your body. Your lungs reside behind your ribs.</p>
<p>4. Now, slowly breathe in, filling your lungs up from the bottom. Picture your ribs expanding out and up. Now, breathe out, slowly, with your lungs emptying from top to bottom and your ribs gently contracting back down and in. Don&#8217;t push the breath out.</p>
<p>5. The first few times you do this, do it for 2 to 3 minutes, then do it for up to 5 to 10 minutes. At first, set aside a time at least once a day to do this. When you learn how good it makes you feel, you&#8217;ll want to do it at other times as well.</p>

<p>What Yoga is not.</p>
<p>Yoga does not mean to leave home and human society. It is a process of shaping one&#8217;s attitude to home and society with a new understanding. It is not ignoring your actual life; it is the spiritualization of it.</p>
<p>Yoga is (definetely) not a religion, but a help in the search of truth, wich is a basic practice as in all religions.  Yoga is not experienced through taking allucinating drugs or plants or mushrooms.  Although Yoga is not a medical practice, it has been shown to be very helpful in many ways, so, Yoga is not just physical fitness training.</p>
<p>Meditation</p>
<p>In addition to practicing the poses, a typical Yoga class can also include instruction on breathing, call and response chanting, meditation, or even an inspirational reading by the teacher.  The term of  &#8220;power yoga&#8221; is usually used to differentiate the intense, flowing style of yoga they were teaching from the gentle stretching and meditation that many American people has largely associated with yoga.  Power yoga will mostly appeal to people who are already quite fit, enjoy exercising, and want a minimal amount of chanting and meditation with their yoga.</p>
<p>Yoga practice</p>
<p>Yoga practice can include the use of meditation, reflection, study and other classic elements, but the emphasis of the Yoga practice is on coordinating breath and movement.  What is commonly referred to as &#8220;yoga&#8221; can be more accurately described by the Sanskrit word &#8220;asana&#8221;, which refers to the practice of physical postures or poses.</p>
<p>Practice asanas that draw your attention inward; forward bends and restorative poses.  Outside India, Yoga is mostly associated with the practice of asanas (postures) of Hatha Yoga or as a form of exercise, although it has influenced the entire Indian religions family and other spiritual practices throughout the world.</p>
<p>It will not be out of place, therefore, for me to tell you frankly and clearly that not all that has been put across as Yoga is really Yoga.  There are many heartening signs that this Yoga is being considered by many seekers in the West to be the most suitable method for the solution of the perplexing problems of their civilisation.</p>
<p>Eventually yoga is an all day long practice.  While yoga is very effective in alleviating certain types of medical conditions, these are secondary benefits.  The physical foundation of yoga is a series of structured poses (asanas) performed with breath awareness.  Yoga is a complete practice that joins back mind, body and spirit. Decide if yoga is right for you.</p>

The main components of yoga are the asanas (physical postures), the pranayamas (breathing exercises), and dhyana (meditation). Unlike some other forms of exercise, yoga does not require a lot of expensive equipment. A sticky mat and a balance ball are often all that is needed. But what about the place where you practice yoga; your yoga studio?  </p>
<p>Chances are you will actually practice yoga in two places, the place where you take classes with others, and in your own home. The yoga studio in your own home need not be elaborate- it need not even by a separate room. Anywhere relatively free from distraction and clutter will do. If you work out using DVDs, you will want to have a television set and DVD player available. Request your children and spouse not to bother you while you are exercising or meditating. </p>
<p>Finding a Yoga Studio  </p>
<p>Choosing a yoga studio where you will attend lessons can be a bigger challenge. First, you need to find out if there are any yoga studios in your area. Check the phone book, or try yogafinder.com. It&#8217;s important to select a studio that&#8217;s convenient from your home or workplace. Otherwise, the trouble it takes to get to the yoga studio will become an excuse not to exercise.   </p>
<p>When you visit the yoga studio for the very first time, pay attention to your instincts &#8211; Is your first impression favorable or not? Does the room make you feel peaceful or frantic? Is the temperature of the room comfortable? (Be aware that Power yoga involves working out in a heated room to increase flexibility and encourage the release of toxins.) </p>
<p>Is the staff friendly? If you don&#8217;t like your instructor, or if you don&#8217;t feel a rapport with him or her, ask if there is someone else you can work with. If not, move on to the next studio. You won&#8217;t get far with someone you don&#8217;t like or trust.    </p>
<p>Next take a look at the other students. Do the other students seem to be at about your level of training, or are they far more or less advanced? Talk with them and see what they have to say about the yoga studio. Finding a yoga studio where you feel comfortable can be a challenge, but with these simple guidelines, you&#8217;ll soon find the right place and start learning yoga with confidence.   </p>

<p>Yoga Clothes should be Comfortable </p>
<p>Yoga clothes have to be a bit loose unlike aerobics where skin-tight fitting clothing is preferred. For yoga it is preferable to have cotton garments since it will need to absorb the sweat resulting from the exercise. It needs to be loose since yoga involves a number of &#8216;asanas&#8217; or specific positions which are meant to be done to regain the balance of health of body and mind. </p>
<p>There are a number of yoga pants available in the market. The most common variety is the three quarters length also known as the knee length pant. Close followers are the ankle-length yoga pants. A few prefer to have them above the knee, though this is not very comfortable. Some people prefer fitting yoga pants and that is acceptable provided you can bend and stretch. If that is what you feel comfortable in, there is absolutely no reason why you cannot wear what you are happy with. </p>
<p>There is no such standard uniform for yoga, and hence there are no prescribed yoga pants either. However, as per manufacturers&#8217; visions, the market is flooded with karate-similar dresses designed for yoga classes. When we speak particularly of the yoga pants, most people (yoga gurus) recommend the use of cotton pants instead of synthetic and loose instead of tight fitting. </p>
<p>The best way to know whether the yoga pants you choose are the right ones for you, or not by evaluating the way you feel. If the pants feel good, then go right ahead and buy them; if not continue to look around until you find something that provides you with comfort and flexibility. </p>
<p>Before you make a final decision, check out your yoga pants while sitting in the lotus position. If you feel comfortable in this position, it is very likely that the pants you bought are the correct one. A T-shirt similar in material to the pants and/or a plain cotton shirt that could match can usually complement your new yoga pants.  </p>
<p>Regardless of how you look outside, the important thing is how you feel inside after practicing the art of yoga.  </p>
